Largest painting I have made in about a year!  17.5 x 23.5 inches (45 x 60 cm) Acrylic and collage on paper.

This painting was a surprising struggle.  I tried to film myself for the first few days, but the files were corrupted and destroyed.
I went through so many layers on this painting; at one point it was very colorful, then green, then blue, then red, then black!  I finally got so frustrated with the composition I cut the painting into 3 inch squares and rearranged them in a new order, painted them gold, and collaged delicate tissue leaves on top.

The final result is something I am quite happy with, but it was quite a battle getting there.  Often on these larger abstract works (like this and this) I feel like I am in a battle, fighting the materials and composition.  It occupies my every thought and affects my mood until I can bring resolution to the work.  Once the torrent inside me begins to subside I know I am nearly finished painting.

It is snowing in Kyiv today.  I have started another larger painting.

Love the painting, love the description, bummed the video did n't happen! I have gone through his with paintings and I wished I had a video of the process. Like footage of a football game-watching the films to learn for next time...

knowing the story really gives the viewer even more of a connection to the image-
